Host an Evening

A Campaign in Recognition of the 30th Anniversary of the Community Kitchen

To recognize three decades of service, partnership and community, A Just Harvest has launched the Host-an-Evening 365 (HAE-365) campaign, which aims to secure a Host for every day that the Community Kitchen services dinner in 2013.

It costs approximately $1000 a night to open the Community Kitchen doors and host dinner for an average of 170 patrons.  This cost does not include the food provided primarily by our generous partners. This cost covers rent, staff, supplies, insurance, equipment maintenance, etc. – costs necessary to be able to open our doors every single night.

Join the members of the HAE-365 working group, representing companies like Petersen Aluminum, MainStreet Advisors, and Magnuson Group, and pledge today to Host an Evening in 2013 as together we celebrate 30 years of fighting hunger until “all have plenty and no one is left in need.”

What does it mean to be an Evening Host?

A Host is typically described as a person who receives or entertains guests, or a person, place, or company, that provides services and resources. Similarly, being a Host at A Just Harvest means being the person or group who, through their financial contribution, ensures that the service of feeding occurs, and that the resources for feeding individuals and families in need are available and accessible. An Evening Host at A Just Harvest is someone committed to creating abundance in community.

Through the Host-an-Evening-365 Campaign, evening Hosts are regularly recognized – through signage in the Community Kitchen on the hosted evening(s) and on A Just Harvest’s website, Facebook, and Twitter pages. Evening hosts also have the opportunity to invite friends, family, or colleagues to join them on their evening to serve dinner to patrons in the Community Kitchen. This is optional for those who want to be more hands-on and would enjoy experiencing the impact of their contribution while working in community with others.

Hosting Opportunities

It costs $1000 a night to host an evening, and there are several pledge options to choose from in order to join the HAE-365 Campaign:

Junior Host – any individual or group that pledges to host one evening or up to six evenings of dinner service over the course of the campaign.

Senior Host – any individual or group who pledges to host in one or more of the following hosting blocks:

  • 7-day Senior Host
  • 14-day Senior Host
  • 20-day Senior Host

Hosting Groups –Hosting Groups provide an opportunity for an individual or group to collaborate with others in fulfilling on their commitment to end hunger. Groups can organize office fundraisers, raffles, or house parties to fulfill their pledge, while utilizing the materials provided by A Just Harvest to raise awareness about hunger and poverty in the Chicagoland area. A Just Harvest utilizes a partner model in fulfilling its mission because we recognize that it takes a large and diverse collection of stakeholders working in concert to end hunger. Just the same, A Just Harvest invites Senior Hosts to work in partnership with individuals in their network to raise awareness and resource to fulfill their pledge to end hunger.
