Welcome! If you’ve clicked on this page, chances are you’re interested in helping us out. We look forward to meeting you!
A Just Harvest has three main ways you can volunteer: Serving in Our Community Kitchen, Organizing for a Fair Economy with Northside P.O.W.E.R., and Mentoring Young Adults with the Genesis Project. We also always need volunteers with plumbing, painting, carpentry, graphic design, photography, videography, administrative, fundraising and communications skills. We welcome and appreciate volunteers who can help in any of these areas!
Before you volunteer for the first time, you must attend an orientation session. If you’re leading a group of first time volunteers, please encourage group members to attend as well. You’ll learn about our history, the patrons you will be serving, our community organizing to fight hunger and poverty, what to expect on your first shift, and much more. You will have the opportunity to schedule your first shift at the end of your orientation session. Please note that each volunteer orientation session will be capped at 20 participants.
Please note that except under limited circumstances, the minimum age of volunteers is 12 years old. If you are bringing a group of children between the ages of 12-14, please bring 3 adults to help supervise.
To find out when the next orientation session will be held or for more information about volunteering, contact our volunteer coordinator, Patricia Thomas, at 773-262-2297 x24 or via email at volunteer [a] ajustharvest.org.
Please Note: If you are not able to speak directly with our volunteer coordinator, you need to receive a phone call or email confirming that you are on the schedule before you come to volunteer.
